Numerical investigation of aerodynamic performance of an axial fan blade equipped with vortex generators

Delay in the onset of static stall via passive vortex generators (VGs) results more efficient equipment. Nevertheless, most studies VGs are conducted on wind turbine blades rather than other turbomachinery devices like axial fan blades. This study is feasibility research to see whether aerodynamic performance improves presence VGs. Therefore, VGs' effect a blade with an elliptical profile having maximum thickness 8% chord length and without twist angle investigated. Fully resolved RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes) simulation shear stress transport k–ω turbulence model at Re = 1 × 105 used discover flow characteristics for two types fan, eight twelve It shown that, both fans, not only can implementing improve effectively but also separation phenomenon delayed. Furthermore, it concluded that installing performed better 8-blade up 3° delay, 9.88% increase lift coefficient, 48.15% decrease drag coefficient respect clean blade. Analyzing real fans considering rotary angles equipped will be feasible future research.
